Description

The BlackGEM telescope array has been in regular operation for over a year now. It has been actively following up on gravitational wave alerts from LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA, as well as high-energy alerts from SWIFT and other telescopes. Additionally, BlackGEM has been utilized for the Local Transient Survey to regularly monitor the nearby universe, and it has conducted deep observations of the Galactic Plane (Fast Synoptic Survey) to investigate stellar variability on the shortest timescales.

In my talk, I will provide a brief overview of the surveys, the data collected, and give a summary of the first results. These results include the discovery of rare compact pulsating stars and binary systems that are potential progenitors of Type Ia supernovae in our Galaxy. We have also identified novae, luminous red novae, and the closest Type Iax supernova, as well as tidal disruption events (TDEs), gamma-ray burst counterparts, and other types of explosions in more distant galaxies.

I will conclude my talk with a preview of what lies ahead, particularly the upcoming LVK run starting in September of this year.
